You can start a website with no IT knowledge, however you should follow these simple steps:

All you need is a laptop, an idea and about £20 cash.
Is it legal?
Yes 100% as long as you are over 18 and a British resident (other countries vary). You will be liable for Tax if your earning over a certain amount per year, we believe this is around £6000.
Lets get down to business
Step 1
Select what you are going to sell, show or talk about.
This is crucial. You will need a niche market to create a website about, for instance setting up a site for your local sports club or maybe its a photo blog full of images that you take.
Step 2
You need to now decide if you want a commerical or personal website, to set up a decent commercial website (as opposed to a personal home page) you will need:
To setup a personal/small business homepage you will need:
- a domain name, such as www.mysite.co.uk
- webspace - a home for your website’s files, provided by a hosting company
- the website itself - a collection of pages and images, linked together to make a complete site.
- the actual products or adverts your going to make money from.
To setup an easy blog you will need:
- a domain name, such as www.mysite.co.uk.
- webspace - a home for your website’s files, provided by a hosting company
- the blog itself - usually using software such as WordPress or Blogger
- The adverts your going to make money from.
To setup a commerical product homepage you will need:
- a domain name, such as www.mysite.co.uk.
- webspace - a home for your website’s files, provided by a hosting company.
- the website itself - a collection of pages and images, linked together to make a complete site.
- the shopping cart software - a shopping cart system, allowing users to purchase your products.
- the actual products your going to sell
Step 3
How do I register a domain name?
There are plenty of companies that let you register a domain name online. First, you’ll have to check that the name you want is available - again, you can do this below. Registration is cheap: typically around £10 a year. It is usual to register your domain with the same hosting company that provides your webspace, we personally recommend using 1&1 hosting.

| 1&1 Internet Limited | £0.99 - £5.00 per year | £4.99 a month + 1 free domain name. (Home Edition) | 1&1 hosting |
| UK Hosts 4U | £9.99 - £99.99 per year | £19.99 a year + free domain | UKHosts4U |
UK2.NET | £2.69 - £11.99 per year | £3.95 per month + 1 free domain | UK2Net |
| NamesCo | £9.99 per two years | £0.99 - £19.99 per month + free domain | NamesCo |
How can I get webspace?
Webspace is space on a large computer owned by a hosting company. It is set up so that anyone who types your domain name into their browser will be connected to your webspace. You’ll be able to rent enough space for a good-sized site for around £8.99 per month, however you can easily get smaller sites hosted from as little as £1.99 per month. (See table above)
Which hosting company is best?
I don’t act as an agent for any hosting company, because I prefer to be able to give independent advice. Obviously, situations can change, but the table above shows some of the top 4 hosting companies in the UK. (See table above)

What products should I sell?
If you want physical products you should research buying products cheaply, or dropshipping. The best in the industry is Wholesale Pages.
What adverts can I put on my site?
It’s time to start to advertise other products on your website, the most simplist way is via Google Adsense.
Google AdSense lets website publishers/ bloggers show ads related to your content on your web pages. You get paid every time a visitor on your site clicks an ad. You can also provide Google web search and Google site search (for your own site) and earn money when your users clicks on Google ads on the search results pages.

| AffiliateWindow | Play.com, New Look, Halfords etc | AffiliateFuture pays you monthly when these adverts generate visits, leads or sales. They are one of the biggest Affiliate companies in the UK. Highly Recommend ! | AffiliateWindow |
Step 4 - Getting peoples email addresses
The most important part of a website, is being able to inform your users of any updates, promotions etc.
You could just put a simple form on to your site and add users to an email account, however the problem with this it takes you time to add each user and can easily be come corrupted and you could loose all your members.
